Keeping Up with New Activity

Keeping Up with New Activity

This topic describes how to keep up with discussion activity in your SkillsMax course.

  1. Reading New or Updated Posts.
  2. Receiving Notifications.

Reading New or Updated Posts

The discussion navigation pane on the Discussion page provides visual indicators to help you identify new posts, as well as posts with unread responses or comments. For details on post labels and icons, see Discussion Navigation Pane.

Sorting by Activity

In the discussion navigation pane, you can sort posts based on activity. To do this, open the sorting options drop-down at the top of the pane and choose either Recent Activity or Most Activity:

  • Recent Activity: Displays posts in order of their most recent updates, including new responses or comments.
  • Most Activity: Displays posts with the highest number of responses or comments at the top.

Sorting by Votes

You can sort posts in the discussion navigation pane by the number of votes received. To do this, open the sorting options drop-down at the top of the pane and select Most Votes.

This arranges posts so that those with the highest vote count appear at the top. In this view, the number of votes each post has received is displayed instead of the response and comment count. Note that votes for responses are not included in this count.

For more details on voting, see Vote for Posts or Responses.

Receiving Notifications

When you create a discussion post, you may receive an email notification for the first reply. Additionally, you can subscribe to a daily digest email that summarizes activity for the posts you are following.

Receiving Email Notifications

If your course is set up to send email notifications, you will receive an email when another learner or course team member responds to your post for the first time.

If you don't want notification, uncheck the Receive updates box before submitting your post.

You will only receive an email for the first response. Any additional responses or comments will be included in the daily digest email. For more details, see Receiving Daily Digests.

Receiving Daily Digests

You can subscribe to a daily digest email that provides a summary of discussion activity for the posts you are following. To enable this feature:

  1. Go to the Discussion section of your course.
  2. In the How to use SkillsMax discussions graphic, check the Receive updates box.

Unsubscribing from Notifications

To stop receiving notifications, you can do either of the following:

  • If you received an email notification, click Unsubscribe in the message.
  • On the Discussion page of your course, uncheck the Receive updates box in the How to use SkillsMax discussions graphic.

Note: These actions will unsubscribe you from daily digest emails. However, if you create a new post, you will still receive an email when someone responds for the first time. To prevent this, uncheck the Receive updates box before submitting your post.
